This community has a passion for enjoying all four Adirondack
seasons, and the surrounding region is filled with activities,
attractions and events:
Warrensburg is nestled in the foothills of the Southern Adirondacks,
tucked in between the juncture of the Schroon River and the mighty
Hudson. Just off of Exit 23 of the Adirondack Northway I87, the
scenic main street is lined with Victorian homes, lovely B&B’s, and
a number of cozy and elegant antique shops are sprinkled throughout.
This little town and the surrounding region are known for excellent
snowmobiling, hiking, biking, whitewater rafting and canoe
adventures. For a visitor-friendly activity, visit the Charles
Lathrop Pack Forest, a SUNY-managed demonstration forest. This
handicapped accessible property is 2500 acres of woodland used for
scientific study and various environmental studies programs. (Be
sure to keep your eyes open for the 315-year old eastern white pine
known as “Grandmother’s Tree”). There are numerous golf courses,
dude ranches, shopping, and access to endless hiking and biking
trails in Warrensburg as well. The area is filled with fun and
unique things to do: attend a rodeo, lie on the beach at Echo Lake,
visit a nationally renowned smokehouse, or simply go antiquing and
find that elusive treasure you’ve been looking for!
Chestertown is located approximately 12 miles north of
Warrensburg, just off Exit 25 of the Adirondack Northway. Its
location between the Hudson River and the Schroon River has earned
it the name, “Crossroads of the Adirondacks”. Chestertown is
surrounded by beautiful waters, including Loon Lake, Friends Lake,
Valentine Pond, Tripp Lake, Brant Lake and others. Dynamite Hill
Recreation area is run by the town, where kids and adventurous
adults can ski, toboggan, and enjoy the cross country ski trails and
ice rink. Chestertown has more than 60 miles of well-groomed
snowmobile trails. The area is filled with scenic byways for biking,
many hiking trails, whitewater canoeing and kayaking. Stroll the
quaint downtown and explore its restaurants and antique shops.
North Creek/Johnsburg This area is best known for its love of the
outdoors! It is home to Gore Mountain, one of the premiere ski
mountains in New York State, and boasts one of the top 10
cross-country ski areas in the country at Garnet Hill. A deep
appreciation for the thrill of whitewater rafting is evident in the
excitement of the Whitewater Derby held here each May. Visitors to
North Creek can take an unforgettable ride on The Upper Hudson River
Railroad’s scenic train rides along the shore of the Hudson River.
Jump aboard for a gondola ride up the mountainside, dig for garnet,
or unload your bicycle for one of the most scenic country rides
you’ll ever undertake.
Stony Creek The little town of Stony Creek pursues outdoor
recreation in a big way! The area is known for its access to
numerous streams and lakes, hiking, camping, and fishing. Wintertime
is a bustling season, with snowshoeing, extensive snowmobile trails,
winter camping and ice fishing. During all seasons, Stony Creek
represents the love that Adirondack residents have for good music,
and the summer “Music in the Park” series is an annual favorite.
Autumn brings a gorgeous riot of color, and the views are well worth
the trip.
Lake George One of the most beautiful lakes in the country, Lake
George is 32 miles of sparkling clean water just a few minutes from
downtown Warrensburg. Busy Lake George Village caters to visitors
who come to explore the region, and there is never a shortage of
activities and fun. Take a ride on a cruise ship, camp on the
islands, shop or enjoy some play time in the arcades. There are
restaurants, museums, music and dancing in this outdoor playground
of Upstate NY.
